CAN'T WE DO SIMPLE ADDITION?

To the editor:

Is Japan right? Maybe we can't read or use simple addition. In the March 1 paper, I have been led to believe that most people are about the same or worse than in '88 economically. Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, it appears that most people are about the same or better off than they were in '88. It seems that I was taught that 46 percent is bigger than 34 percent. What do you think?
