MAFIA SUSPECTED IN SICILIAN'S SLAYING

Salvatore Lima, a member of the European Parliament and one of Sicily's most prominent politicians, was shot and killed in a suburban Palermo street Thursday in a suspected a Mafia assassination, police reported.

Lima, 64, was killed by several bullets fired at him by two gunmen on a motorcycle at around 9:40 a.m. as he was about to drive to his office in his chauffer-driven official car near his home in Mondello, police said.
