Willie Banks scored six of his 24 points in the last five minutes and pulled down a key rebound to lead third-seeded New Mexico to an 89-83 victory over Wyoming in the opener of the Western Athletic Conference tournament Thursday.

The victory moved the third-seeded New Mexico (18-11) into Friday's semifinal against UTEP.UTEP 66, Colorado State 65

Texas-El Paso guard Prince Stewart drove the middle with 45 seconds to salvage a 66-65 victory over upset-minded Colorado State Thursday.

Colorado State, the No. 7 seed, had taken a tentative lead, 65-64, with 1:04 left in the game on two free throws by Ryan Yoder.

But Stewart, 5-foot-10, weaved his way through the taller CSU players for what was to be the game-winner.
