JOHN Z. BROWN DIES AT 87, PAST LDS HOSPITAL OFFICIAL

John Zimmerman Brown Jr., past president of the LDS Hospital medical staff, died Tuesday, March 10, 1992. He was 87.

An obstetrician and gynecologist in Salt Lake City for many years, Brown had delivered approximately 15,000 babies during his career. He was the last rotating chief of the OB/GYN department at the hospital.Brown graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Utah and completed his medical education at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated magna cum laude. He continued his medical training at Methodist Lying-In Hospital in Philadelphia, where he did his residency.

He also graduated as a flight surgeon from the School of Aviation Medicine at Randolph Field, Texas. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Brown served five years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the commanding surgeon at several bases.

When he left the service, he received the Army Commendation Ribbon.

Funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Ensign Stake Center, 589 18th Ave. Viewing will be Sunday at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the Ensign Stake Center on March 16 from noon to 12:45 p.m. Interment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
