CAPTION ONLY: BULLET TRAIN - 1990'S VERSION

Japan's newest bullet train, the "Nozoni," is left of its predecessors at a railway depot in Tokyo. The first fully new model in 28 years will take aim at its newer European rivals when it begins service Saturday. The new trains have a top speed of 169 mph, 30 mph faster than their predecessors but below the French TGV's 188 mph. Winding track limits bullet trains' speed.
