A 9-year-old Riverton boy was in extremely critical and unstable condition Friday night at Primary Children's Medical Center after neighborhood children found him earlier in the day with a single gunshot wound to his head.
The boy, found a few blocks from his home in a field at 11922 S. 1300 West, had a gun holster strapped to his body. A .22 caliber revolver was found nearby, said Lt. Dave Bishop, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department. The gun was apparently taken from the boy's home.Bishop said no one witnessed the incident. Deputy sheriffs are sure the wound was self-inflicted, Bishop said, but they don't know if it was accidental or a suicide attempt.
