U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT ISSUES KENYA ADVISORY

Americans visiting Kenya have been advised by the State Department to avoid the Masai Mara National Reserve, until security improves, because of attacks on tourists, including the recent abduction of six Americans who were traveling in a single tour van.

Travelers who do visit the Masai Mara should do so in multivehicle safaris under the direction of reputable tour operators, the department says. Most incidents in the last year have involved single vehicles, the department adds in a travel advisory issued March 4. Robbery was the main motive, it says.
