SALT LAKER ARRAIGNED ON MURDER CHARGE IN DEATH OF 3-YEAR-OLD

A Salt Lake woman accused of killing a 3-month-old child was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of murder.

Jerri Sue Teuscher, 44, was arraigned before 3rd Circuit Judge Eleanor VanSciver. The judge ordered her to appear again April 16 before Judge Floyd Gowans, who will set a date for a preliminary hearing.Defense attorney Jo Carol Nesset-Sale was with Teuscher for the brief court appearance.

Teuscher, who ran a day-care center in her Sugar House home, is accused of shaking Richard "Rocky" Christensen, son of Paul and Sylvia Christensen. She called 911 on Dec. 16, 1991, at 3 p.m. to report the infant had stopped breathing. He was pronounced dead the next day.

Teuscher said she dropped the baby at 9:30 a.m. but didn't call for help until the boy failed to wake up from his nap. An autopsy and other medical reports, however, indicate the child died "as a result of severe shaking," according to court documents.
