QUAYLES GET A POOL

A putting green and swimming pool paid for by private donations have been built on the grounds of the vice president's official residence.

Paul Bateman, the White House's deputy assistant for management, told a congressional panel Tuesday that the money came from about $390,000 Vice President Dan Quayle and his wife have collected in private donations for renovations to the 19th-century mansion on the grounds of the Naval Observatory.
