IRON APPROVES REZONING FOR CHEMICAL PLANT

The Iron County Commission has approved the rezoning of 160 acres west of Cedar City, paving the way for construction of a multimillion-dollar azide chemical plant.

American Pacific Corp. said its $40 million project will employ 40 to 50 residents when it begins full production of the azide compound used as an inflation catalyst in automobile airbags.In agreeing to the change to industrial zoning, County Commissioners Jim Robinson and R.L. Gardner said the proposal had been through public hearings.
