The Brigham Young University communications department has awarded its third annual Focus on Excellence award to the public affairs office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The award was presented to Managing Director Bruce Olsen on Thursday as part of the communications department executive lecture series. Also attending were 35 members of Olsen's staff."This group has been important. First of all, they do a lot of things that we like to teach our public relations people to do. The media needs to be more proactive rather than reactive to solutions. They have been doing this so well in the past two or three years under Bruce Olsen that we decided they deserved this award," said communications Chairman David Forsyth.
Last year the award was presented to the LDS Church magazines.
"Next year we're looking at a newspaper or a magazine or a media unit, nationally or even internationally, that has shown vast improvement," Forsyth said.
