NOT-GUILTY PLEA IN NEW YEAR'S EVE SLAYING

A Draper man accused of shooting his friend to death during a New Year's Eve party pleaded not guilty to the murder charge Friday.

Khambay Tanpirak, 22, entered his plea before 3rd District Judge Richard Moffat. He will appear before the judge again March 6 for another bond hearing. A trial date will be set then.A circuit court judge reduced bail from $150,000 to $50,000 on Feb. 20. His attorney, however, had asked that the bail be reduced to $5,000. Prosecutors asked that the bail not be lowered because of the possibility that he would flee if released from jail.

Tanpirak is charged with shooting Jesse Atwood seven times in front of Atwood's home at 1064 E. Larkspur Drive (10380 South).
