Wade E. Betenson, an engineer of pavement design and testing for the Utah Department of Transportation, has been named engineer of the year by the Utah Society of Professional Engineers.

Betenson has worked for UDOT for 35 years and in 1985 received an award from the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association for his contribution to the recycling industry.Also honored was Bruce N. Hutchinson, a public utilities engineer for the Utah Division of Public Utilities, who was named engineering educator of the year.

He is a member of the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics and has been the state Mathcounts coordinator since 1984. Mathcounts is a contest sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for seventh and eighth grade students.
