CAPTION ONLY: SPRING BREAKS

Rosie Williams of Park City doesn't let a broken leg get her down. Despite the injury, the 8-year-old daughter of Joe and Jan Williams enjoys the new spring weather on her tricycle. The season officially began at 1:48 a.m. Friday, March 20. Highs were expected to be near 60, with south winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Hansen Planetarium spokesman Patrick Wiggins said spring got under way March 20 because that was the Vernal Equinox, the day the sun passes northward across the equator - when the hours of daylight and darkness are nearly equal. From now on, the days will be getting longer and, generally, warmer.
