Vasectomy does not increase the risk of testicular cancer, a British study says, contradicting research that suggested a link.

"There has been a general hunch" that vasectomy, which sterilizes by severing the sperm duct, may adversely affect the testes and blood, said Dr. Michael Goldacre, a top epidemiologist at Oxford University. But the study provides "reassuring information" that it does not, Goldacre said. The findings are published in the March 21 issue of the British Medical Journal.
