PROVO MASS WILL CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF SLAIN EL SALVADOR ARCHBISHOP

An annual Mass to celebrate the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador will be held Sunday, March 22, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 172 N. 500 West. The Rev. Garret Edmunds will be the principal celebrant, and a Hispanic choir will perform. Refreshments will follow the service, and the public is invited.

Archbishop Romero, an outspoken critic of human rights violations in his country, was assassinated while celebrating Mass in San Salvador on March 24, 1980.Ministry workshop is March 28-29 Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2500 E. 3900 South, will host a workshop for congregational leaders on communicating the vision of ministry on Saturday, March 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 29, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday's events are for pastors, staff, church leaders and evangelism committees, while Sunday's focus will be for congregational newsletter editors. $2,300 given to women's facilities St. James Episcopal Church has donated a total of $2,300 to two Salt Lake area women's facilities. The Salt Women's Shelter will receive $1,800 and the Mari-allac House will receive $500. The money came from profits generated at the parish's annual Italian night event.

Lutheran pastor to be installed The Rev. Peter Hovland, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, will be formally installed as pastor on Sunday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 390 E. Pages Lane. The Rev. Dick Magnus of Denver will officiate.

Lenten series on black Africa set Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1626 S. 1700 East, will host a weekly Lenten series on black Africa on Wednesdays, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a light supper, and a speaker following at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited, and child care will be provided.

Ministries meeting is Tuesday The March meeting of Salt Lake Urban Social Ministries will address "Indian Walk-in Center Ministry" on Tuesday, March 24, at 4 p.m. at 120 W. 1300 South. Speakers Gayle Russell and Dolores Rousseau from the Indian Walk-in Center will also conduct a tour after the meeting.

2 musical shows March 27, 28 Southeast Christian Church, located at Van Winkle Expressway and Vine Street, will host two musical performances. The Christian rock band Swordbearer will perform on Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m., and the youth musical "Hitops" will be performed by junior and senior students of the church on Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
