FAA NOMINEE ASKS TO BOW OUT

President Bush's controversial choice to head the Federal Aviation Administration has asked Bush to withdraw the nomination.

Jerry R. Curry, head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, came under fire from both consumer groups and former FAA chief James B. Busey after Bush nominated him in November.Curry, a black conservative, will be offered another job in government, administration sources said Saturday. And Transportation Secretary Andrew H. Card Jr. said that Curry "continues as a valued member of the president's team."
