LAW-ENFORCEMENT CONCERNS RAISED

Piute County commissioners are hearing complaints about a lack of law-enforcement protection.

Marysvale resident Cleora Peterson recalled a recent incident. She told commissioners that both officers in the sparsely populated county had to be called from Richfield to investigate a burglary of a store in Marysvale. The officers had accompanied a female patient to the hospital, so the burglary investigation was delayed.

Peterson questioned why both officers were allowed to leave the county at the same time. "We cannot be without any kind of law enforcement."

Commission Chairman Afton Blood said commissioners would examine the issue.
