If the International Hockey League playoffs began today, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles wouldn't be playing.
The Indianapolis Ice, the hottest team in the league since goalie Ray LeBlanc returned from the Olympics, passed up the Eagles over the weekend for the final playoff spot. That makes tonight's game (7 p.m., Delta Center) with the Kansas City Blades very important for Salt Lake. The Eagles have 68 points, one less than Indianapolis, with just five games left after tonight.
Last week, the Eagles defeated the Blades 4-3 with a stirring comeback, before falling apart in a 6-1 loss Friday night.
After tonight, the Eagles head to San Diego for games Saturday and Monday.
