Fourteen Ogden School District administrators and teachers returned this week from a nine-day training trip to New York City that officials said was paid for through a state grant.

Ogden schools Superintendent James West defended the trip in the face of the district's $1 million budget shortfall, saying, "It doesn't relate to that at all. It's new money that we couldn't have used otherwise for any other purpose."It was the second straight year the district has sent people to New York City for the same purpose. Eleven educators, including four who were on the trip again this year, went to the same region a year ago.

The agenda called for the educators to visit five schools, one in the Bronx, one in Baltimore and three in Delaware.
