A Kearns man was charged Tuesday afternoon with murdering his stepson.
Jason Thomas Genovesi, 18, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after his 2-year-old stepson, Gavin Adams, died at Pioneer Valley Hospital Friday afternoon.Genovesi was babysitting Gavin and his brother at 5459 W. Balsa Way. He called 911 about 2 p.m. to report that Gavin had stopped breathing.
The medical examiner reported that Gavin died as the result of blunt-force trauma to the back of the skull and a broken neck, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in 3rd Circuit Court.
When paramedics arrived at the home, Gavin was in full cardiac arrest. Genovesi reportedly told deputies the boy had fallen from a bunk bed.
Detectives determined that the bruising on the boy's head wasn't likely to be caused by a fall.
Genovesi married the boy's mother less than a week earlier.
A 3-year-old boy, who was in the home at the time, suffered a leg injury that detectives are also investigating.
