A Magna man was arrested early Wednesday in connection with the armed robbery of a grocery store at 8205 W. 3500 South, Magna.
Salt Lake Sheriff's Lt. Dave Bishop said a man entered the Smith's Food Center about 1:36 a.m. and held a rifle to the head of an employee and ordered the employee to open a cash register. The employee was unable to open the register and summoned another employee, who opened it and gave the man an undetermined amount of money. The man then fled.
Bishop said an attempt to locate bulletin broadcast earlier in the night concerning a suspicious vehicle seen in the vicinity of Smith's stores in West Valley City and West Jordan enabled deputies to stop a vehicle matching the description and license number. A woman driving the vehicle told police where her husband could be located.
Sheriff's detectives responded to the address and arrested a man on outstanding warrants. Further investigation in relation to the Smith's robbery resulted in the recovery of money and other evidence, Bishop said.
