ROFFE-STEINROTTER WINS WOMEN'S SUPER G

Diann Roffe-Steinrotter of Potsdam, N.Y., won the women's super giant slalom, the opening event of the U.S. Alpine Championships.

Roffe-Steinrotter was timed in 1 minute, 10.33 seconds. Hilary Lindh of Juneau, Alaska., the Olympic silver medalist in the downhill, was second in 1:10.79 and Eva Twardokens of Santa Cruz, Calif., was third in 1:11.05.In a battle of 19-year-olds in the men's super giant slalom, Eric Schlopy of Vt., won in 1:07.81 and Casey Puckett of Wheat Ridge, Colo., was second in 1:07.90.
