Non-traditional students at Southern Utah University can apply for full-tuition and $250 cash scholarships for the 1992-93 school year by applying at the Student Development Center.
According to Judith Bonniksen, counselor for the center, two of the scholarships are full-tuition waivers for non-traditional students. The student senate is also offering two $250 cash scholarships, to be awarded quarterly.A non-traditional student is generally an older individual who has returned to school or started college after an absence from the classroom for several years. Such students often take full class loads while raising families and/or working at full or part-time jobs. Many non-traditional students are single parents.
To be eligible for the scholarships, the students must be 25 years of age or older, be a sophomore or junior in class standing, be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintain a grade-point average of 3.0 or above.
Students who had a GPA lower than 3.0 when first attending school but have maintained the requisite 3.0 since returning to school may be eligible to apply, depending on the circumstances.
The deadline for applying for the scholarships is 5 p.m. April 3. For application forms and further information, contact the Student Development Center in the Administration Building, Room 102, or call 586-5419.
