A McDonald's restaurant turned a man on horseback away from the drive-through window, but a supervisor later apologized.
Richard Whitaker said he was turned away from the fast-food restaurant in New Smyrna Beach, south of Daytona Beach, when he rode up to it Thursday on his 10-year-old quarter horse, Lady."Hey, horses have been around longer than cars," Whitaker said. "I don't think McDonald's would have survived in the 1600s when horses were the only transportation humans had."
Whitaker and Lady went across the street to a Circle K convenience store without a drive-through window. He was served there without incident.
John Dame, a McDonald's supervisor, said the restaurant managers made a mistake. He said Whitaker would be served if he wants to ride through again.
"I've talked to the assistant manager at the store, who said her decision was based on safety concerns," Dame said.
