Medicare recipients may be eligible for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries Program, established by Congress in 1988.
Participants are those who receive Part A Medicare whose net income is equal to or less than 100 percent of poverty. Those who qualify do not have to pay for Medicare premiums, deductibles or co-insurance premiums. The program will pay the co-payment share of medical expenses that are covered by Medicare. To qualify, total assets must be less than $4,000 for single people and $6,000 for couples. Some assets, like a home and one car, are not counted. Starting in April, income must be less than $568 a month and $766 for married people.
Clients may be eligible for Medicaid. Those who have Medicaid should automatically be included in this program too. To apply, visit your local Office of Family Support, Utah Department of Human Services.
