The pregnant 14-year-old girl at the center of an Irish abortion crisis has flown to England for genetic fingerprinting tests that could help lead to the indictment of the man who raped her, police sources said Tuesday.
She left Dublin Monday with her parents and two senior Irish policemen less than a week after the Supreme Court overruled a lower court ban on her traveling to Britain for an abortion. The operation is illegal in Roman Catholic Ireland. But the operation will not be carried out on this trip. Doctors will take DNA tests on the fetus that will help to determine whether the rapist is prosecuted. The techniques are not available in Ireland.
