The lone Democrat on the Utah Public Service Commission is now serving as interim chairman.
James M. Byrne will be chairman until Gov. Norm Bangerter names a replacement for Republican Ted Stewart.Stewart recently resigned to concentrate full time on his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jake Garn, R-Utah. Stewart headed the commission for seven years.
Byrne is the only permanent commission member at the present time. Steven Hewlett, a Republican, has been serving as an interim commissioner since last fall when Steven Mecham took leave to serve as Bangerter's chief of staff through the remainder of 1992.
