- Lisa Jeffs attends leaders conference:
Lisa Jeffs, West Jordan, attended the National Young Leaders Conference last month in Washington, D.C. Her selection was based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership and citizenship. She was one of 350 youth selected nationally for the conference.Jeffs is the daughter of David W. and Mary Lee Jeffs, and she is a senior at West Jordan High, where she is active in the FHA. National Honor Society, DECA, FBLA, VICA and the Youth Advisory Committtee.
- Tooele Army Depot donates computer software:
The Tooele Army Depot recently donated numerous copies of Wordperfect computer software to the Granite School District, the Tooele County School District and the Tooele Adult Education program.
- Lila Montoya honored:
Lila Montoya, Creekside Home Health Care West Valley Area administrator, has been named employee of the year for Creekside Home Helth Care. She received $500 in conjunction with her recognition.
- Driving for Education:
Riverton Motor Company has completed the first segment of its "Driving for Education" program, and Draper Elementary School has qualified for the Apple Macintosh Classic 2/40 System with software for helping produce 152 test drives.
Ron Jarrett, school principal and Janene Wlcker, volunteer, has been instrumental in surpassing the goal of 150 test drives.
- Shauna White joins S.L. Navy team:
Petty Officer 1st Class Shauna White has joined the U.S. Navy Recruiting Station in Salt Lake City, 833 E. 400 South, suite 130. She is a mess management specialist and is the daughter of Vera Andersen of Salt Lake City.
- U.S. Army/Air Force news:
- Anthony J. Scholte, 18, son of Peter and Tenna Scholte of Salt Lake City has enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years. He will graduate from Valley High this spring and signed through the delayed entry program.
- Christopher W. Haxton, 20, son of John Haxton of Riverton and Margaret Bell of West Valley City, has enlisted with the U.S. Army for three years. He graduated from Valley High in 1989 and will be a a power generation equipment repairer.
- Forrest A. Reeves, 17, son of Thomas and Jeannie Reeves of Sandy, enlisted in the U.S. Army for six years through the delayed enlistment program. He will graduate from Alta High in 1993 and will be trained as a unit supply specialist in the army.
- Andrew S. West, 17, son of Creighton and Margareth West of Salt Lake City, has enlisted in the Army for six years. He will graduate from Skyline High this spring and will be trained as a medical non-commissioned officer.
- Desirea L. Wainner, 18, daughter of Paul and Patricia Wainner of Salt Lake City, has enlisted in the U.S. Army for six years. She graduates from Taylorsville High this spring and will then receive training to be a medical non-commissioned officer.
- Pvt. 1st Class Eric J. Wimmer was recently presented with the Air Assault Badge upon graduation from the air assault school at the Army's Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He is the son Elwood W. and Jeanette W. Wimmer of West Valley City and is a 1988 graduate of Granger High School.
- Army Sgt. Richard C. Crouch, a carpentry and masonry specialist, has arrived for duty at Fort Greely, Alaska. He is the son of Charles R. and Kay Crouch of Salt Lake City.
- Five new sergeants have been assigned to the Salt Lake area Army Recruiting stations recently. Junior K. Krows, Johnny M. Day, Jr. and Thomas C. Bennett have been assigned to the West Valley station.
Gary Britton has been assigned to the Kearns Recruiting Station and Michael Mabbitt has reported for duty at the North Salt Lake City Recruiting Station.
- Airman 1st Class Tracy S. Lloyd has graduated from the dental assistant specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. He is the son of Shirl D. Lloyd of Salt Lake City.
- Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Tina M. Okerland has graduated from the information management specialist course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss. She is the daughter of Jan Gillit of Salt Lake City.
- Donald Ozmun joins Boone and Crockett Club:
Donald "Bud" Ozmun of Salt Lake City was recently inducted into the membership of the Boone and Crockett Club, the oldest conservation club in America. He joins a group of 120 members who share an interest in wildlife conservation and to big-game hunting.
