MORTON PLANS TO ADD 300 UTAH WORKERS

Morton International's Automotive Safety Products Group said it expects to hire an additional 300 employees by the end of the summer to meet customer requirements for the 1993 model year of motor vehicles.

Morton's automotive airbag inflator production facilities are expanding to accommodate the accelerated demand for airbags in all passenger vehicles sold in the United States, a spokesman said.With the hirings, the company's total employment at its three Utah facilities in Ogden, Brigham City and Promontory will reach 2,000, the spokesman said.

The company's airbag operations have been in Utah for 25 years. In the past five years, sales have soared from $7.8 million to $225.2 million.
