The nation's top four public-land managers plan to travel together to Utah next week.
Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan, Bureau of Land Management Director Cy Jamison, Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Dennis Underwood and Bureau of Mines Director T Ary will all arrive late Tuesday and spend Wednesday in Ogden and Salt Lake City.Lujan is scheduled to meet with Gov. Norm Bangerter at his office at 9 a.m. Wednesday, to fly over the Kennecott mine at 10:30 a.m. and speak to the Ogden Rotary Club at noon in the Ogden Park Hotel - where he is also scheduled to hold a short press conference.
"Secretary Lujan will give a major policy speech there," said Interior Department spokesman Erick Olsen.
Later, Lujan is expected to meet with a coalition of business leaders in Salt Lake City, and will depart for Nevada about 3 p.m., Olsen said. The land managers are also scheduled to visit Colorado on their trip.
Olsen said Lujan and the others want to discuss a wide range of land and mining issues on the trip but did not elaborate.
Olsen said he cannot remember the last time that the interior secretary and managers of the BLM, Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Mines all traveled together. "But they all had business in the state and will all be meeting with their staffs there."
