POWDER ROUSES SUSPICIONS

A Kearns child declined to play an updated version of cops and robbers Tuesday evening, but his mother took the game seriously enough to call the authorities.

The mother told a Salt Lake County deputy sheriff that her 7-year-old son was playing outside their home about 5:30 p.m. when another boy about his age tried to sell him a bag of white powder for $5. The woman's son declined, and the would-be salesman dropped the bag and left. The woman told the deputy neither she nor her son knew the other boy and said she had thrown the white powder away after tasting it and deciding it was sugar. The deputy advised the woman against tasting unknown substances.

A field test showed the powder was not a narcotic, the deputy's report states.
