An open house for a local resident who was on the 1992 Winter Olympic team is scheduled at the Eden Post Office Wednesday, March 11, from 3-5 p.m.
Biathloner Patrice Anderson placed fourth among U.S. participants and 42nd overall.Anderson's husband, Brian, was able to watch her compete thanks to the Postal Service. Through a program called "Celebrate the Dream," he received an accommodation package in Albertville that included everything but air fare.
"Relatives are the people behind the scenes," said Eden Postmaster Donald Young. "They make a lot of sacrifices to see their loved ones go to the Olympics."
About 80 families of U.S. Olympic winter team athletes went to Albertville through the program. To offset costs, the Postal Service is offering a set of six limited-edition sports-art stamp collecting items. Five illustrate specific events: ice hockey, figure skating, speedskating, biatholon and skiing, and bobsled and luge. There is also an all-sports montage. Individual items are $4.95 and the montage is $29.95.
These items will be available from March 11-20 at the Eden Post Office. They can also be purchased by calling 1-800-435-0228 or writing to U.S. Postal Service, Sports Art Collectible, P.O. Box 14328, St. Paul, MN 55114-0328.
