A first-grader was expelled for firing a gun on school grounds and threatening to shoot a teacher who scolded him.
No injuries were reported in the Feb. 18 shooting outside the cafeteria of Webster Elementary School in Bushnell, about 50 miles northeast of Tampa.Later in the day, a teacher scolded the unidentified 6-year-old for misbehaving, and he threatened to shoot her, authorities said. It was then that the teacher found the 3-inch gun in the boy's jacket.
The boy's parents told school officials that the child apparently got the gun by stacking stereo speakers and furniture to reach it atop a 7-foot cabinet.
The School Board on Tuesday ordered that the boy be tutored for the rest of the year and undergo psychological evaluation before returning next year.
His parents said school officials had rejected their earlier request that the child receive a psychological evaluation, saying his misbehavior wasn't serious enough.
