UTES, COUGARS EACH GET 20TH WIN

Mikki Kane scored 26 points and the University of Utah used a blistering second-half field goal effort to defeat San Diego State 77-61 and secure its fourth straight 20-win season. Utah, 20-7, also won the battle for third place in the WAC.

The Utes broke a tie with SDSU - improving to 10-4 in the WAC, while the Aztecs dropped to 9-5. Kane, who also led the Utes with 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocked shots, helped Utah to a 63 percent second-half field goal shooting effort. Tanya Zachary scored 17 points for the Utes.The Utes will go into next week's WAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play either UTEP or Colorado State in their tourney opener.

BYU 93, New Mexico 61

After winning just eight games last year, BYU's women's basketball team won its 20th game of the 1992 season, picking up a 93-61 victory over New Mexico Saturday night in Provo. This is BYU's first 20-win season in 10 years.

The Cougars, who assured themselves of a second-place finish in the WAC with last Thursday's win over San Diego State, play Colorado State in the first round of the WAC tournament next Thursday at 6:00 in the Huntsman Center.
