Directions: Take highway 18 north of St. George for about 23 miles. Will go through Snow Canyon and small town of Veyo. Reservoir on east side of highway.
Description: Located in a high-country setting of juniper pines. Reservoir about 60 surface acres when full. Typical southern Utah setting.
Fish: Rainbow brown trout, green sunfish, crayfish
What works: Use traditional baits for rainbow - salmon eggs, cheeses, night crawlers and power bait. Try spinners for brown, also brass and copper spoons such as Thomas Cyclone, Krocodile and Jake Spin-A-Lurel fly fishermen may want to try green damsel fly nymphs earl in the year and in summer and fall green and brown wooly buggers.
Details: Fish flies and lures around the inlets and bait in the deeper water adjacent to dam. Best fishing for browns is in the fall. The best time to fish for browns in early morning and late evening. Most of the fishing done from shore.
Notes: Most of the rainbow are pan-size catchables. Reservoir is noted, however, for trophy brown. Sometimes catch browns in 4-pound range and occasionally one in the 8-pound class. Nice BLM campground on eastern end of water. Good place for small boats. No formal ramp, but can hand-launch. Planted in early March. Best fishing March, April and May. Typically slow in the summer because of warm temperatures.
