The NHL reopened talks with the striking players in an attempt to save the Stanley Cup playoffs. In doing so, the league allowed its season-ending deadline to pass. A spokesman for the NHL Players Association said that executive director Bob Goodenow was on his way to New York to meet today with NHL president John Ziegler. It will be the first time they've talked since owners gave the players a take-it-or-leave-it contract offer.
