SHARE U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TO PLAY CUBA IN AMERICAS TOURNEY

The United States men's Olympic basketball team will play Cuba in its opening game at the Tournament of the Americas in Portland.

Four teams from the 10-team tournament June 27-July 5 will qualify for the Summer Olympics in Barcelona.USA Basketball announced the draw and schedule Thursday.

The 10 teams have been divided into two five-team pools. During the course of the qualifying tournament at Portland Memorial Coliseum, each team will play the other four teams in its pool.

The United States was placed in Pool A along with Argentina, Canada, Cuba and Panama. Pool B is comprised of Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The U.S. team, which for the first time will include NBA players, will face Cuba on June 28.

In its other pool games, the U.S. team will play Canada on June 29, Panama on June 30 and Argentina on July 1.

The top three finishers in each pool will advance to elimination play, with the first-place teams receiving opening byes. Semifinal winners will play July 5 for the tournament championship.
