Nu Skin International has joined with the Children's Miracle Network to help raise money for the charity's 160 hospitals in North America.

"We see this as an excellent opportunity to fulfill our social responsibility to the communities where we do business," said Steven J. Lund, executive vice president. The money collected by Nu Skin and its independent distributors will remain in the community in which it's raised. The multilevel marketing company hopes to raise $250,000 this year.Prior to forming a partnership with Nu Skin, Mick Shannon, Children's Miracle Network president, asked Nu Skin last year to participate in its fund-raising effort. Nu Skin President Blake Roney gave the group a check for $170,000 Thursday.

Shannon said Nu Skin is the first Utah company to join with the network, also a Utah endeavor founded in 1983 by entertainers Marie Osmond and John Schneider. Other major sponsors include Walt Disney, Wal-Mart, General Foods and Marriott.

The charity raised $100 million last year and provided health care for more than 5 million children.

The 1992 telethon is scheduled for May 30-31, broadcast live from Disneyland.
