The University of Utah and Northern Colorado split a double header at Derks Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears took the first game 8-4 behind a solid effort from starter Ray Garza on the mound. Garza went the distance, holding the Utes to seven hits and four runs. The most excitement came in the second inning when Ute center fielder Victor McCraney hit a fast ball deep off the wall in left center for an in-the-park home run.In the second game, the tables were turned. Ute freshman Jason Jarvis pitched the complete game, giving up only six hits and one run. Third baseman Mike Alto knocked in five runs on three hits leading the Utes to a 9-1 victory in the finale of the three-game series with the Bears.
The Utes move to 8-25 overall, while Northern Colorado remains even at 14-14. Utah resumes Western Athletic Conference play April 17 against Air Force at Derks Field.
