A 19-year old Sandy man remains in a coma at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden following an accident near Brigham City on April 11.
According to Utah Highway Patrol reports, Bryan C. Winberg and a companion experienced problems with their vehicle and were force to abandoned it near I-15.After walking into Brigham City, the pair made several phone calls. Shortly before 9 p.m. Winberg decided to return to the vehicle alone. Proceeding westbound on foot along U-13, near the Wilson Lane overpass, one mile west of the city, Winberg noticed his vehicle being towed by an eastbound wrecker.
Winberg stepped out into the westbound lane of traffic and attempted to get the wrecker to stop. While standing in the road, he was struck by a westbound car, driven by 70-year-old Lamar L. Rader of Corinne, who could not see Winberg due to the oncoming headlights of the wrecker.
Winberg was taken by ambulance to Brigham Community Hospital and was later transferred to McKay-Dee. Rader and his wife, Bertha, a passenger, who both reported histories of heart problems, were also transported to the hospital after experiencing chest pains.
No citations were issued in the accident, which was witnessed by a Box Elder County deputy sheriff.
