Pete Suazo, former aide to Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis, is running as a Democrat for House District 23, which includes the Rose Park, Glendale and Jackson areas of Salt Lake City.
Suazo earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Utah and currently is executive director of Centro Civico Mexicano.He has lived in the district the past seven years and "is well aware of the diversity and multitude of concerns which affect its residents."
"Our newly redistricted legislative area is bounded almost entirely by freeways. We must be sensitive to protecting the beautiful neighborhoods that serve as gateways to the city from I-80, I-15 and I-215." Suazo says he's been active with local housing rehabilitation efforts, graffiti clean-up campaigns and fund raising for youth programs.
"Protecting the quality of our neighborhoods and providing vibrant, well-planned redevelopment are basic to our district," he said.
