Microwaved eggs can explode and cause severe eye injuries, a doctor warns.
In a letter in the April 18 issue of the British Medical Journal, Dr. R. Corridan of the Birmingham and Midland Eye Clinic said a microwaved egg exploded after removal from the oven and burned the eyes of a 22-year-old woman. The explosion, he wrote, is due to rapid expansion of gas formed inside the yolk. He recommends scrambling or poking the yoke to avoid a blast.
This is the fourth, but most serious, reported case of microwaved egg-induced eye injury, wrote Corridan.
