BYU placed fifth in the 45th Annual Western Intercollegiate Golf Tournament Wednesday.
The Cougars, in 15th place after the first round, made a late charge, but it wasn't enough to take the 54-hole tourney.Brad Sutterfield and Mike Weir shot closing rounds of 2-under-par to finish at 2-over, 215, six strokes behind medalist Todd Fischer of San Francisco.
San Jose State, the host team, won the tournament with a four-player score of 864. Fresno State came in second, followed by Pacific, Stanford and BYU. Utah finished 12th and Weber State 13th.
