Italy will host a round of Mideast peace talks under an agreement concluded between Israel and the Arabs, the State Department announced.
The round to be held in Rome will be the sixth and will follow talks to be held in Washington beginning on Monday.Israel and the Arabs met for the first time in Madrid last October and then held three rounds of talks in Washington. They made little progress on the three main topics: arrangements for limited self-rule for Palestinian Arabs on the West Bank and Gaza, Arab recognition of the Jewish state, and peace between Israel and the Arab nations.
