The Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce is encouraging local businesses to think green and plant a tree for Arbor Day.
"As supporters of the community, our goal is to make the city a beautiful place to live and work," said Raynal Pearson, chairman of the chamber's environmental committee. "This is one way we can show how much we care to improve the environment." Arbor Day is Friday, April 24.Trees provide habitat for animals and birds, release water vapor, helping to cool a neighborhood in the summer and produce oxygen.
Chamber members and other members of the community can participate in Arbor Day by:
- Donating $50 to purchase a tree for a city park. Call the chamber at 379-2556 for more information.
- Beautify a business by planting one tree for each employee.
- Take a tree home for each child in your family and let them help plant it in the yard.
Small one-gallon quaking aspen trees can be purchased at several nurseries in the area for about $6; larger trees cost approximately $20.
