Officials have given the local Boy Scouts of America Council permission to participate in the Utah Combined Federal Campaign.
Rees A. Falkner, executive of the Utah National Parks Council, said the decision means the local Scouting program can apply to be a charitable recipient of the annual federal employees contribution program. The Utah Combined Federal Campaign is a federal employee payroll deduction program allowing employees to make contributions to the charity of their choice.
Falkner said the Utah National Parks Council, which administrates the local Boy Scout of America programs, is in the process of applying to be a recipient for the 1992-93 campaign.
Additionally, the local council - which covers the Uintah Basin and all of central and southern Utah - includes many federal employees involved in Scouting as well as in volunteer roles.
Also, the Boy Scouts of America's effort to protect the environment is reflected in a recently published conservation handbook, Falkner said.
The new manual puts into practice the environmental philosophy and will help local scout leaders establish cooperative relationships between land managers of state and national agencies and local troops.
