Samuel Anthony Macri, died in his 90th year, April 26, 1992, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born in Pennsylvania to Elizabeth and Joseph Macri. Loved by his brothers and sisters, especially his kid sister, Lena Monteleone, Grove City, Pennsylvania. Married young, he supported his two children, Sam Jr. and Francis, during the depression. Sam Jr., died three years ago, and Francis' ship was sunk in 1944. His first wife, Anna, died in 1937. He married Evelyn Hand in 1938. They observed their 54th wedding anniversary April 24, 1992. She survives him in Menlo Park, California.In 1938, while a national labor leader, he was instrumental in mounting `Hague v. CIO' a landmark case in the Supreme Court, which to this day authoritarians are trying to overturn. He was vigilant of the First Amendment.
In his later years he was a jeweler in Fall River, Massachusetts and in the San Francisco Bay area. Son, Robert and wife, Bonnie, have been privileged to host "genka" (grandpa) during his decline due to aging, this past year. He enjoyed association with his 10 grandchildren in Salt Lake and his Pennsylvania grandchildren, born to Sam Jr. and his wife, Betty. He worked hard all his life and was a respectable citizen. All will miss his integrity, honesty and compassion.
