British Prime Minister John Major tries to hold a barn owl at a farm in southwest England on Friday. Major's Conservative Party and the Labor Party are locked in a close fight for control of parliament. Labor would take a tough stance on Libya over the Lockerbie bombing if it wins next week's general election, party leader Neil Kinnock said Friday. Major derided Labor's European policies as too submissive. Kinnock also said he wanted to continue Britain's close ties with the United States. But he said the relationship between former President Reagan and Major's predecessor, Margaret Thatcher, had an "unhealthy" intimacy.
