A 6-month-old baby was abandoned late Tuesday after her mother apparently asked a man to hold her, then never returned.
An intoxicated man phoned Salt Lake police about 10:30 p.m. and said he had been given a 6-month-old girl and he did not know what to do with her. "The woman told him: `Hold her. I'll be back,' but never came back," Salt Lake Police Sgt. Dana Orgill said. The child was turned over to the state Division of Family Services. Orgill said the baby appeared to be healthy.
Police apparently failed to get the address of the man who had the baby and are interested in speaking to him or the parents of the child, he said.
